Our Story

Prashanti Bala Mandira Higher Primary School (Kannada medium)

Chikkaballapur

Prashanti Bala Mandira School is located in the holy premises of Sri Yogeshwara Mutt at the north of the serene and calm town of Chikkaballapur in the state of Karnataka. The land where the school stands today belonged to Sri Yogeshwara Mutt. The sanctified premises of Sri Yogeshwara Mutt have a pious history. This place was an Ashram where a Yogi by name, Sri Yogeshwar Maharaj spent his life, meditating in a cellar beneath the Ashram. He would occasionally emerge from the basement and speak to his devotees. During one of his talks, he prophesied thus: “I am known by the name of Yogeshwar, but the real Yogeshwar is yet to come. When He comes, He will manifest himself here and dwell here, in the near future. He will be wearing an orange robe (referring to Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba)”. During the year 1960, Sri Yogeshwar Maharaj asked his disciples to close the entrance to the cellar and entered the Blissful Samadhi state for ever. Later, a small shed was erected in this place and regular bhajans were held.

Mr B N Narasimha Murthy, currently the Chief Mentor of the Sri Sathya Sai LokaSeva Group of Institutions was the District Co-ordinator for Sevadal wing for the Chikkaballapur district during 1971, which is also his birth place. He had a strong desire to build a Sathya Sai school at Chikkaballapur itself in order to benefit many students of his native town. He, along with Mr N Kasturi, the State President of Karnataka during that time, thought of the sacred land where the Yogeshwara Mutt was previously existent and approached the disciples of Sri Yogeshwar Maharaj who had the ownership of that property. The disciples of Sri Yogeshwara were also ardent devotees of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. They readily agreed to offer the land to them for this noble cause.

Mr B N Narasimha Murthy, Mr N Kasturi, along with Mr T Ramaiah, Mr Krishnamurthy, Mr Srinivas Reddy, Mr K R Shastry (Former District President of Kolar District) went to Prasanthi Nilayam to seek the blessings of Bhagawan Baba to start a new Trust, christened by them as Prashanthi Balamandira Trust, in order to carry out the good work at Chikkaballapur. Thus, the Prashanthi Balamandira Trust came into existence in the year 1981.

True to Sri Yogeshwar Maharaj’s prophesy, this place became the seat for a Sri Sathya Sai Seva Samiti drawing unto itself the nearby villagers, men, women and children. From thereon, the various service and spiritual activities in the premises commenced. A Jeeva Samadhi in the form of BrindavanSmrithiMantap is built in this place for Sri Yogeshwar Maharaj, which to this date, is suffusing the environs with its divine vibrations. Sri Sathya Sai Roopa Mandir has been constructed here to conduct prayers, Bhajans and other spiritual activities.

Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai baba says “The end of education is character. A complete education is that which makes a man compassionate”. The trust began its first service activity with the establishment of a Kannada medium PrashantiBala Mandira Primary and Higher Primary school in the year 1982. What can be more fulfilling than to begin with tiny tots ready to be moulded, pliable and supple that they are! This Primary and Higher Primary School was taken under the direct guidance of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba in June 2007. The School continues to be an elixir in the lives of the simple folk in and around the town, a ray of hope for a bright future for their kids.

“Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba felt that the education of today is paralysed by indiscipline, irreverence and futility. The only remedy according to Bhagawan was in carving out a new path, which would be deeply rooted in our tradition, culture and spirituality. Baba wanted to provide students with the kind of education that not only strengthens their intelligence, but also purifies their impulses. The personality of students should reflect the balance between contemplation and action. A distinction between Education and Educare is worth noticing here. While Education is just for a mere living, Educare is for Life. Educare is the blossoming of the divine potential and love latent in every human being by emphasising on the practice of human values. Baba often says, ‘End of education is character’. Character can be developed only by a system of education that leads to physical, mental and spiritual development in the students. Bhagawan Baba in one of His discourses to the students had said, “Teaching you the university curriculum, preparing you for examination and awarding you university degrees are only means employed for the ultimate goal of your spiritual uplift, self-discovery and social service.” Thus, a synthesis of science and spirituality is the very essence of our Institutions. Students are encouraged to develop their skills for self-help, on subjects, for profession, in social life and in their ethics. SAI in fact stands for: Social responsibility, Academic responsibility and Individual responsibility. Every student is encouraged to tread the path laid down by Baba to ultimately reach their higher goals.”

A Chairperson’s wisdom is the shining light of an Institution!

“I love my school!”

“I have been studying in Prashanti Bala Mandira Higher Primary School since my Lower Kindergarten. This School is teaching me sports and music, apart from imparting moral values in me. The teachers tell us epic and moral stories. My sister is also studying in this School in Grade 4. My father is a daily wage labour and he often tells me that this School is a blessing for us, since it gives us values-based quality education absolutely free-of-cost. He constantly advises me to utilise the time at School well, and learn all that is being taught”.

“An untiring working experience!”

“I am fortunate to be working as a teacher in the Prashanti Bala Mandira Higher Primary School since the year 1998. This School offers the best of education completely free-of-cost, which is a very rare phenomenon in the world today. Spirituality is the basis of everything in the School and this disciplines the students to a great extent, and service mindedness develops in such a setting very naturally. There is a lot of respect for this School in our surrounding community. The last 20 years of my experience in the School has never made me feel exhausted. I am looking forward to be associated with the School for many more years to come.”
